Geniuses Don’t Sleep With Their Phones

Imagine Elon Musk in bed (no, not like that!) waking up only to snooze his alarm, then getting up 30 mins later and laying in bed scrolling through Instagram for another half an hour.

It’s a ridiculous scenario because it’s unlikely to have ever happened (well, maybe it has once or twice, I mean he is a human… I think).

Why? Because geniuses don’t sleep with their phones. They sleep in order to be the best version of themselves so that they are ready to tackle whatever tomorrow has in store for them.

Yesterday I wrote about simple habits to implement today, in order to make ourselves better tomorrow. As well as writing everyday, I’m also trying to make room for my ‘genius’ to grow. You know what I mean, that part of you that is creatively inclined, who questions things rather than just accepting them, who always strives to do more and be more rather than float through life. Apparently, I’ve been suppressing that side of me by sleeping with my phone.

By waking up, snoozing a once or twice (or five times) then proceeding to lie in bed checking emails, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter etc. etc. I am feeding my desire for instant gratification and addiction to social media.

But I know I’m not alone. You face a similar morning ritual, don’t you?

However we can all change that – we have the power to unlock our creative genius that hibernate within us whilst we are zombies going through the motions of our day. All by simply choosing to not sleep with our phones.

It’s easy. All you have to do is put your phone away from your bedside table. That way, you’re forced to get up as opposed to staying in the comfort of your toasty sheets. Then, to really create an incredible start to your day, you can choose to not look through your phone until after breakfast. It’s a peaceful, self-reflecting, conscious time before the rush of the day that puts you in the best stead to be as productive as possible.

And you can start tomorrow morning. It’s the easiest habit that you can implement in order to improve your life!

So start now… I promise you’ll benefit greatly from it.

Now, I’m off to bed (with my phone strategically placed on the other side of my room).
